GRANDMOTHERS PACIFICA 2011 GATHERING WHEN: MARCH 31 – April 3, 2011 The Grandmothers Pacifica Event will begin on Thursday, March 31. Check- in time is 3:00pm. On Sunday, April 3, check-out time is 11:00am. Click here to register. THE COST: $100 REGISTRATION FEE FOR THREE NIGHTS. If you plan to NOT stay at KMC,THE REGISTRATION FEE IS $20 PER PERSON PER DAY. Children (aged 5 to 15) are welcome on Saturday only, at no cost. Meals are at your own expense. THE PLACE: KILAUEA MILITARY CAMP (KMC) IN VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK on the island of Hawaii. Nearest airport is in Hilo which is about 30 miles away. KMC is located within the boundaries of Volcanoes National Park. An entrance fee of $10 per vehicle (good for 7 days) is required. Various National Park passes apply. We’re gathering at this lovely and inexpensive facility because it is conveniently located and offers the services we require. The upcountry setting at 4,000 feet means that temperatures will be in the 60’s-80’s during the day and 50’s-60’s during the evenings. Bring clothing for fluctuating weather, a rain jacket and comfortable shoes. If you are planning to go to the Petroglyph Field, bring a pair of soft-soled shoes. THE ACCOMODATIONS: DORM ROOMS We have reserved 50 beds on a first come, first serve basis. The facilities are very clean with about six bunk beds per room. Linens are provided. If you’d like to bring an extra blanket or pillow, please do so. There are also closets for hanging clothes. If some of you wish to camp, you must contact the Park directly to get costs, camping requirements and locations within the Park. Also available are one, two and three bedroom cottages. Please contact KMC directly at kmc-volcano.com for further information. Rates range from $140-$240 per night. Registration fees stated above still apply. MEALS Meals will be at your own expense. The CRATER RIM CAFÉ offers breakfast , lunch and dinner. Besides a la carte items, there is a breakfast buffet for $10 per person and a very generous dinner buffet for $13.75 per person. Additionally, there is the 10-PIN GRILL offering pizza, burgers, sandwiches, soft drinks, beer and wine coolers; the JAVA CAFÉ for Starbucks or Ka’u grown coffee, smoothies and fresh baked pastries, and casual drinking at the LAVA LOUNGE. If you are a vegetarian and coming from the Big Island, you might consider packing your favorite food items in a cooler and bringing it with you.
